Travel Art’s two-day Lechkhumi itinerary brings together Lailashi, Gvirishi Waterfall, Zanduri House, Khvamli and the Green Lake at Kulbaki. It gives us time to enjoy the scenery, discover the local food and get to know our hosts along the way.
In Lailashi, the best-known attraction is the pool, with a panorama of mountains stretching out beyond it. The surface of the water, the mountain silhouettes and the open space make a striking scene. It is worth lingering to explore the village itself, too. On the way to the pool, traditional Lechkhumian oda houses scattered across the hillside catch your eye.
At the panoramic viewpoint by Gvirishi Waterfall, you see Lechkhumi’s terrain from a different perspective. The rocky gorge gives the place its distinctive character. The viewpoint is a good spot to photograph the landscape and take a short break after the drive.
We discover the flavours of Lechkhumi at Zanduri House, where our wonderful host, Manoni Akhvlediani, introduces us to the region through a cooking class.
We spend the night in Lechkhumi, then continue towards Khvamli the following day.
Khvamli holds a particular fascination, with its rocky massif and the legends surrounding it. The visit is planned with the season, the weather and the group’s abilities in mind.
Our final stop is the Green Lake at Kulbaki. Surrounded by wooded slopes, its waters reflect the colours of the landscape; in autumn, gold and yellow join the greens. After our time in the mountains, a walk here and a rest beside the water are especially welcome.
