Stop 1
The Tsinandali Estate
Alexander Chavchavadze's Tsinandali estate brings together a house museum, a historic garden and wine culture. Here the Kakheti journey ties literature, family history and a walk in the park together.
Stop 2
Wine Tasting at Tsinandali
Tasting wine at Tsinandali is part of getting to know Kakhetian winemaking. At the tasting you discover the aromas and character of the wines and hear about local traditions.
Stop 3
The Palace of King Erekle II
In the Batonis Tsikhe complex in Telavi you visit the palace of King Erekle II. The royal residence holds important chapters of the history of Kakheti and of Georgia.
Stop 4
Ikalto Monastery and Academy
At the Ikalto monastic complex you discover the remains of the old academy and its stone churches. This place is bound up with the history of education and spiritual life in Kakheti.
Stop 5
Alaverdi Monastery
Rising on the Alazani plain, Alaverdi is one of Kakheti's most remarkable cathedrals. Its high dome, the monastery yard and the Caucasus backdrop give the place a scale of its own.
Stop 6
A Family Qvevri Cellar
At a family marani you learn about the tradition of making wine in qvevri. Your host's account takes you from the vineyard to the cellar and through the family's winemaking experience.
Stop 7
Wine Tasting at the Family Cellar
At the family marani you taste the wine with its maker's own commentary. Discovering different aromas and flavours helps you understand local winemaking better.
Stop 8
A Kakhetian Dinner
At the end of the day you sit down to a Kakhetian table and taste local dishes. Dinner is a good time to share the day's impressions and talk with your hosts.
