The Darni and Darbazi Houses of Nijgori
In Nijgori you discover traces of the old Meskhetian domestic world. The darni and darbazi houses tell how home, daily life and defence were bound together.
Stop 2
The Cyclopean Fortresses of Saro
Built from massive boulders, the remains of the Saro fortresses recall Meskheti's most ancient past. Beyond the stone walls a wide panorama of the Mtkvari valley opens up.

Church of the Archangels in Saro
The Church of the Archangels stands close to the old settlement and the stone fortresses. The quiet around the church and the valley views round out your visit to this village.
Stop 4
Lunch in Saro
In the churchyard of the Archangels, a lunch prepared by the village women awaits you. Local flavours and a calm setting turn the middle of the journey into a pleasant pause.
Stop 5
Khertvisi Fortress
Rising above the confluence of the Mtkvari and the Paravani, Khertvisi Fortress overlooks the valley's historic roads. Its towers and walls introduce you to Meskhetian defensive architecture.
Stop 6
Vardzia
Carved into the cliff, Vardzia is a monastic world of halls, passages and a church. Here medieval history meets the striking views of the Mtkvari valley.
Stop 7
Tiri Ranch
A horseback ride from Tiri Ranch is a chance to see Meskheti's landscapes from a different angle. The trail continues towards Tmogvi, among the views of the valley.
Stop 8
Tmogvi Fortress
Perched on a rocky height, the surviving Tmogvi Fortress overlooks the Mtkvari valley. Seen from afar, its walls and the mountain slopes make one of Meskheti's most distinctive landscapes.
